What to Expect at a Performance

Just wanted to drop a note saying how much we enjoyed the concert in Belvidere. It was a pleasure speaking with several of the band members and Bandmaster James. The professionalism and musicianship exhibited was First Rate! I look forward to seeing and hearing you in the future.

The Yankee Brass Band performs with approximately 25 musicians in keeping with the typical band size in the late 19th century. The instrumentation includes Eb cornets, Bb cornets, Eb alto horns, Bb tenor horns, Bb baritones, Eb tubas, Bb tubas, and percussion. All the instruments used for performances are from the late 19th century and replicate the actual sound that audiences would have heard during that time period.

During the concert a small group of six to eight musicians performs as a serenade band. This group is typical of an ensemble that would perform when a smaller group and lighter sound would be more appropriate. Concerts may also feature solo performances to showcase members of the band.

The concert program is similar to a typical brass band concert in the late 19th century. The band performs original music and arrangements of music from many sources including operas, symphonies, marches, folk tunes, jigs, regional songs, popular songs, and overtures.

Audience members are welcome and encouraged to meet the band members and to look at the instruments up close. We hope to see and meet you at one of our performances.
