Mission
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the 19th century American brass band musical heritage and traditions.
American brass bands have a prominent and important place in our nation’s history. Bands were numerous and active in towns of all sizes throughout the country. Going back to the mid to late 19th century, brass bands served communities in several capacities from street parades to concert halls. Performances included music from operas, symphonies, musical theater, folk tunes, ballads, and patriotic songs. It was the American brass band that created a cultural connection and bond between local communities and the rest of the world.
Friends of the Yankee Brass, Inc. is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the 19th century American brass band musical heritage and traditions. To achieve this mission, the organization has established several goals
- Organize and support the Yankee Brass Band to provide live performances that inform audiences of the authentic musical traditions, sounds, and repertoire of 19th century bands.
- Research, restore, and preserve the actual brass band music of the period.
- Provide educational activities and historically informed presentations to promote a better awareness and understanding of the role of brass bands in building our cultural identity and creating a common cultural bond in America.
As the Friends of the Yankee Brass, Inc and the Yankee Brass Band work to fulfill its mission, we endeavor to keep this important part of the American music heritage alive for many years into the future.
