What is the Yankee Brass Band?
The Yankee Brass Band presents 19th century American brass band music using antique brass and percussion instruments, providing a living history experience.

2026 Concert Tour
The Yankee Brass Band will be performing in New Hampshire this July. For updates on the performance schedule, see the band’s concert schedule.

Spotlight on a Musician

Chris Troiano is the Historical Ensembles Program Manager for the Green Machine Ensembles associated with George Mason University. Chris earned degrees in Euphonium Performance and Music Education at the University of North Texas and a Doctorate of Music Arts at George Mason University. Chris formed the 8th Green Machine Regiment Band in 2017, still directs it and is an administrator for the Patriots Fife and Drum Corps.
As a historical low brass performer, Chris has played with the Old Bethpage Village Brass Band, Newberry’s Victorian Cornet Band, the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Band, the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band, the Fort Delaware Cornet Band, Beck’s Philadelphia Brigade Band, and Music of the Regiment. In 2023 Chris joined the Yankee Brass Band on Bb tenor horn, and in 2025 he was elected Vice President of the Friends of the Yankee Brass Band, Inc. Chris performs frequently on serpent, ophicleide, and various valved low brass instruments including Bb tenor, Bb baritone, Bb bass and double-bell euphonium.
As a presenter of historical band music, Chris has given presentations at the US Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop in Washington, DC, the Northeast Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference in Fairfax, VA, and at the Historic Brass Society Symposium in New York City. Additionally, Chris co-hosted the Early American Brass Band Podcast, which has moved to the YouTube channel Troiano’s Brass Band School, focusing on 19th century brass bands.
As a modern musician, Chris plays euphonium with the Capital Wind Symphony and the City of Fairfax’s Alte Kameraden German Band and teaches low brass lessons and numerous classes at George Mason University.
Did you know?
Our musicians come from across the country for one week in July. We rehearse for a day and a half and then perform five concerts. We started in Vermont and New Hampshire, but have also toured in Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
